Have you ever gone to a restaurant that advertised “never-ending” breadsticks, pancakes, or pasta? It’s an enticing idea. You can eat as much as you want, and the food just keeps coming. But here’s the catch—it’s not really never-ending. The breadsticks stop when you’re full or when the restaurant closes for the night. These so-called “never-ending” experiences actually do have an end. The truth is, most of us would get tired of eating the same thing over and over again anyway. It’s a good reminder that in this life, even what seems endless eventually runs out.
But what about God? What about heaven, eternity, and God’s love for us? Do those things have an end? Thankfully, the Bible tells us that the most important things—God’s love, His promises, and our eternity with Him—are truly never-ending. And unlike breadsticks and pancakes, we will never tire of living in God’s presence forever.
The Bible is clear that God’s love is never-ending. It’s not conditional, and it doesn’t depend on how good we are. In fact, Romans 8:38-39 (NIV) tells us:
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
This passage reminds us that God’s love is not something that can be exhausted or used up. It’s constant and unchanging. It doesn’t have an expiration date. No matter what happens in our lives—whether we fail, fall short, or go through difficult seasons—God’s love is still there, never-ending and unbreakable.
The Bible often refers to God’s love as “steadfast” or “enduring.” Psalm 136:1 (NIV) says:
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.”
Think about that for a moment: “His love endures forever.” Unlike the things of this world that fade or change, God’s love remains the same through every situation. It’s the foundation we can always rely on, no matter how shaky everything else around us might feel.
Many people wonder, “What will we do in heaven forever? Won’t we get bored?” The Bible describes heaven as a place of endless joy, worship, and communion with God. Revelation 21:3-4 (NIV) gives us a beautiful glimpse of what heaven will be like:
“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
In heaven, there is no suffering, no sadness, and no pain. It’s hard to even imagine what that will feel like, but the Bible assures us that we will never tire of it. The joy of being in God’s presence is something we will never grow weary of. Unlike the things on earth that lose their appeal over time, heaven will be filled with new wonders and endless worship. We will experience the fullness of God’s love and glory without ever running out of things to praise Him for.
Jesus Himself told His disciples that He was preparing a place for us. In John 14:2-3 (NIV), He says:
“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
Jesus promises that our eternal home with Him will be a place where we belong. We won’t be longing for anything else, because we’ll be in the presence of the One who satisfies our every need.
While heaven is a place of never-ending joy, the Bible also teaches about the never-ending consequences of hell for those who reject God. It’s not a popular topic, but it’s important to understand the seriousness of this reality.
Jesus spoke often about hell and warned of its eternal nature. In Matthew 25:46 (NIV), He says:
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
Hell is described as a place of separation from God, where there is unending suffering. It’s the opposite of heaven’s joy and fulfillment. The choice to accept or reject God has eternal consequences, and those who choose to live apart from Him will experience that separation forever.
Thankfully, God is patient with us and extends His grace. He doesn’t want anyone to experience the consequences of hell. 2 Peter 3:9** (NIV) says:
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
God’s patience and grace are part of His never-ending love. He continually reaches out to us, offering us the opportunity to turn back to Him, no matter how far we may have strayed.
So, what does it look like to live in light of God’s never-ending love, grace, and eternal promises? It means living a life of continual worship. We don’t have to wait for heaven to begin praising God. Our entire lives can be acts of worship—our work, our relationships, our daily choices—all of these can be expressions of our gratitude and love for God.
Romans 12:1 (NIV) reminds us of this:
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
Our lives should be a reflection of the never-ending love we’ve received. When we worship God with our lives, we also get a taste of what eternal worship will be like in heaven. And unlike earthly pursuits, we will never grow tired of praising our Creator, because He is infinitely worthy.
In this world, everything eventually comes to an end—breadsticks, jobs, even relationships. But the things of God are truly never-ending. His love never fails, heaven’s joy will never cease, and His grace is available to us every single day. As we look forward to eternity with God, we can live each day as an opportunity to experience a little more of His never-ending goodness.
And when we finally reach our eternal home, we can be sure of this: we will never tire of living in the presence of the One who loves us without end.
