Built Differently

Ford’s commercials for their trucks remind me of Christians. Over the years, Ford has used several slogans, but my favorites are “Built to Last,” “Built Strong,” and “Go Further.” Each of these slogans perfectly captures qualities that I believe describe Christians. Ford was attempting to let the world know what make their trucks unique and different than other trucks on the market.

Have you ever stopped to think about how we, as Christians, are built differently from the rest of the world? It’s not just about our beliefs or the things we do; it’s about who we are at our core and the purpose God has designed for each of us.

First things first, let’s talk about purpose. In Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV), God says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” This verse reminds us that God created each of us with a specific purpose in mind. It’s not a one-size-fits-all kind of plan; it’s tailor-made for each individual.

As Christians, our ultimate purpose is to bring glory to God in everything we do. 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV) tells us, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” This means that our thoughts, actions, and even our very lives should reflect God’s goodness and point others to Him.

One of the ways Christians are built differently is through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. In John 14:16-17 (NIV), Jesus promises His followers, “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you.” This Spirit guides us, convicts us of sin, and empowers us to live according to God’s will.

This indwelling of the Holy Spirit sets us apart from those who do not believe. It gives us spiritual discernment, wisdom, and a deep connection with God that transforms our thoughts and desires.

Romans 12:2 (NIV) tells us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” As Christians, our minds and hearts undergo a transformation. We no longer think and act according to the world’s standards but align ourselves with God’s truth and righteousness.

This transformation isn’t just about outward behavior but starts from within. It affects our attitudes, motivations, and how we perceive the world around us. Instead of being driven by selfish desires or worldly ambitions, we are motivated by love for God and others.

Another key aspect of being built differently as Christians is living by faith. Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) defines faith as, “confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Our faith in God’s promises and His faithfulness sets us apart from those who rely solely on their own understanding or material possessions.

This faith guides our decisions, comforts us in times of uncertainty, and fuels our perseverance in the face of trials. It’s not always easy, but trusting in God’s sovereignty and goodness gives us a steadfastness that the world cannot comprehend.

Jesus emphasized the importance of love in John 13:34-35 (NIV): “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Our capacity to love unconditionally, even our enemies, distinguishes us as followers of Christ.

This love goes beyond mere affection; it involves sacrificial giving, forgiveness, and compassion. It reflects God’s own love for us and draws others to Him through our actions and attitudes.

It’s natural for us to be drawn to people who are different from us, including non-Christians. Their lives can sometimes seem more exciting and less restrictive than ours. They may appear to have more freedom, more fun, and fewer rules. However, God has set up guidelines to protect us, much like parents do for their children.

2 Corinthians 6:14 (NIV) advises, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” While we can have friendships with non-believers, our closest relationships should align with our values and beliefs.

God’s guidelines are not meant to restrict us but to protect us. Just as we set rules for our children to keep them safe, God does the same for us. He knows what is best for us and wants to guide us on a path that leads to true joy and fulfillment.

So, as Christians, we are built differently because we are created with a purpose, indwelt by the Holy Spirit, transformed in our minds and hearts, living by faith, and called to love unconditionally. These characteristics set us apart and equip us to fulfill God’s plan for our lives.

Let’s embrace our identity in Christ fully, allowing His Spirit to guide us, transform us, and empower us to live out His purposes. May our lives be a testimony to God’s love, grace, and truth, drawing others closer to Him.

Remember, you are uniquely designed by God for His glory. Walk confidently in your faith, knowing that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6, NIV). Blessings to you as you live out your faith journey!

Being built differently means that we have a unique purpose and a special relationship with God. It means that we are guided by the Holy Spirit, transformed from within, and called to live by faith and love unconditionally. These differences might sometimes make our lives seem more challenging or less exciting compared to those who do not follow Christ, but the rewards are far greater.

Living according to God’s purpose brings a sense of fulfillment and peace that the world cannot offer. Philippians 4:7 (NIV) says, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” This peace comes from knowing that we are in the center of God’s will.

Our transformed minds and hearts lead us to make decisions that are not only beneficial for us but also for those around us. We become beacons of light in a dark world, guiding others towards the love and truth of God.

Living by faith allows us to trust in God’s plan even when we do not see the whole picture. This trust brings comfort and strength, knowing that God is in control and His plans for us are good.

Loving unconditionally, as Christ did, creates a community of believers who support, encourage, and uplift each other. This love is a powerful testimony to the world of God’s grace and mercy.

It is easy to be tempted by the seemingly more exciting and less restrictive lives of non-believers. However, staying true to our identity in Christ and following God’s guidelines will lead to a more fulfilling and joyful life. Remember that God’s rules are not meant to limit us but to protect and bless us.

Let’s continue to seek God’s guidance through prayer, immerse ourselves in His Word, and surround ourselves with fellow believers who encourage and challenge us to grow in our faith.

You are uniquely designed by God for a special purpose. Embrace your identity in Christ, trust in His plans, and let your life be a reflection of His love and grace. May God bless you abundantly as you walk this journey of faith, living out your unique purpose for His glory.
