You Are Not Here, You Are with Your Trouble

Good morning, dear friend. Let’s sit down and chat for a moment. I want to talk about something that’s been on my heart lately. It’s about where our minds often wander, especially when life gets tough. We’ve all had those days, haven’t we? You’re physically present, but your mind is a million miles away. Maybe you’re at work, but you can’t stop thinking about that argument you had with your spouse. Or you’re trying to enjoy a family dinner, but all you can think about are the bills piling up on your desk. It’s like your body is here, but your mind is with your trouble.

Jesus knew we would face days like these. In Matthew 6:34 (NIV), He tells us, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” It’s such a gentle reminder, isn’t it? Jesus is essentially saying, “Focus on today. Trust Me with your tomorrows.” When we spend too much time worrying about the future or dwelling on our troubles, we miss out on the present moment and the tasks God has set before us today.

Let’s take a moment to consider Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42, NIV). When Jesus visited their home, Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She was so focused on her tasks and worries that she missed the opportunity to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to Him. Mary, on the other hand, chose to be present. She set aside her concerns and focused on the moment with Jesus. He gently reminded Martha, “You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Isn’t it easy to be like Martha? We get so caught up in our worries and troubles that we forget to be present. But Jesus calls us to be like Mary—to set aside our distractions and focus on Him. When we do, we find peace and purpose in the tasks He has called us to today.

Imagine trying to drive a car while constantly looking in the rearview mirror. You’d miss the road ahead and probably end up in an accident. The same thing happens in life when we focus on our troubles instead of the present. We miss the opportunities, and the blessings God has placed right in front of us.

Paul, in Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV), gives us a powerful tool for dealing with our troubles. He says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” When we bring our troubles to God in prayer, we exchange our anxiety for His peace. This peace allows us to be fully present and engaged with the tasks God has given us today.

So, how do we stay present? How do we focus on today when our minds want to dwell on our troubles? It starts with prayer. Begin your day by giving your worries to God. Ask Him to help you stay focused on the present and to trust Him with your troubles. It’s amazing how starting your day in prayer can set the tone for everything that follows.

Next, practice being mindful. This might sound a bit new-agey, but mindfulness is simply being aware of the present moment. Whether you’re at work, at home, or spending time with loved ones, make a conscious effort to be fully engaged. It’s about truly listening when someone is speaking to you, savoring your food during meals, or noticing the beauty of nature on a walk. When you’re mindful, you’re not giving space to worries about the future or regrets about the past.

Prioritizing your tasks can also help you stay present. Focus on the tasks God has called you to today. Make a list if you need to, and tackle each item one by one, trusting that God will help you handle tomorrow’s troubles when they come. By breaking down your responsibilities into manageable steps, you can prevent feeling overwhelmed and stay focused on what’s right in front of you.

Don’t carry your burdens alone. Share your troubles with a trusted friend or family member who can pray with you and offer encouragement. It’s incredible how sharing your worries can lighten your load. Galatians 6:2 (NIV) says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” We’re not meant to go through life alone. God created us for community, and there’s strength in leaning on one another.

Reflecting on God’s promises is another way to stay grounded. Spend time in the Word, reminding yourself of His faithfulness. Verses like Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV), “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” can be powerful reminders that God is in control and has good plans for you. Or Romans 8:28 (NIV), “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” These promises anchor us when our minds start to drift towards worry.

Psalm 55:22 (NIV) offers comfort too: “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” When we focus on Him and the tasks He has given us today, we find peace and purpose. Let’s make a conscious effort to be present, trusting that God will take care of our tomorrows.

Remember, friend, you are not alone. God is with you in the midst of your troubles, and He invites you to cast your cares on Him. 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV) encourages us, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” It’s a simple yet profound invitation to lay down our burdens at His feet and trust in His love and care for us.

As we go about our days, let’s strive to be present, be mindful, and let His peace guard our hearts and minds. You are not here to be with your trouble; you are here to walk with God and to fulfill the purpose He has for you today. Each moment is a gift, and each day is an opportunity to experience His grace and love in new ways.

Blessings to you as you navigate this day with Him. Trust that He is with you, guiding you, and providing for you. Embrace the present and let go of the worries about tomorrow. God is already there, and He is in control.
