If You Are Going to Be a Bear, Be a Grizzly

Have you ever heard the saying, “If you’re going to be a bear, be a grizzly”? It’s a reminder to embrace strength, tenacity, and fearlessness in whatever we do.

As Christians, we are called to be bold and courageous in our faith, to stand firm in God’s truth, and to fearlessly follow His call on our lives. Let’s dive into what it means to be a “grizzly” for God, drawing inspiration from Scripture and examples of fearless individuals who walked closely with Him.

In Joshua 1:9, God commands Joshua, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This verse sets the tone for our journey as believers – one of unwavering strength and courage, knowing that God is always by our side.

Here are 3 examples from scripture of people were fearless as they walked closely with God as they followed His will for their lives:
1. Samson: Despite his flaws and weaknesses, Samson exemplifies boldness and strength in the face of adversity. Called to deliver the Israelites from the oppression of the Philistines, Samson fearlessly confronted his enemies, even at great personal cost. His unwavering determination and reliance on God’s strength serve as a powerful reminder of the courage required to fulfill God’s purposes.

2. Daniel: From a young age, Daniel displayed remarkable courage and faithfulness in the midst of a foreign land. Despite facing persecution and opposition, Daniel remained steadfast in his commitment to God, refusing to compromise his beliefs. His boldness in the face of adversity, exemplified by his refusal to bow down to idols and his commitment to prayer, serves as an inspiring example of unwavering faithfulness.

3. Esther: Despite the risks involved, Esther fearlessly approached King Xerxes to advocate for her people, the Jews, risking her own life for their salvation. Her courage and obedience to God’s call ultimately led to the preservation of the Jewish people.

These examples remind us that being a “grizzly” for God means embracing strength, courage, and faithfulness in every aspect of our lives. Just as Samson and Daniel fearlessly followed God’s call, let us too step out in boldness, trusting in His strength to guide and empower us.1. Moses: When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, he initially hesitated due to feelings of inadequacy. Yet, Moses eventually embraced his role with boldness and conviction, fearlessly confronting Pharaoh and leading God’s people to freedom.

Maybe fear is holding you back from fulfilling the call God has on your life.  Instead of being a bear you are more like a lamb.  Here are 5 steps you take to transform from a lamb to a Grizzly:

1. Know God’s Word: Just as a grizzly knows its territory, we must be intimately familiar with God’s Word. Regularly study Scripture, meditate on its truths, and allow it to guide your thoughts and actions.

2. Pray Boldly: Approach the throne of grace with confidence, knowing that God hears and answers prayers. Pray boldly for His guidance, wisdom, and strength to fulfill His purposes in your life.

3. Step Out in Faith: Don’t let fear hold you back from stepping into the calling God has placed on your life. Trust in His promises, and step out in faith, knowing that He will equip you for every task He sets before you.

4. Embrace Perseverance: Like a grizzly navigating rugged terrain, perseverance is essential in our journey of faith. When faced with obstacles or setbacks, press on with determination, knowing that God is faithful to fulfill His promises.

5. Stand Firm in Truth: In a world filled with falsehoods and deception, be unwavering in your commitment to God’s truth. Stand firm in your beliefs, and boldly proclaim the Gospel message with love and compassion.

Today, the world needs Jesus more than ever before.  They will not know Him and all that He has to offer unless Christians spread the word.  Some Christians seem to be moving away from God or living luke warm lives.  It is time for us to be grizzlies for Christ, stand up tall with confidence, be fearless and make the world take note of what we have to say, THEN WE MUST SPEAK UP and share the good news once they begin to listen.

Grizzlies are not just strong and fearless; they are also protective and persistent. This is also how we should live our Christian lives. We should be protective of our faith and persistent in our pursuit of God’s will. As we strive to be “grizzlies” for God, let us draw inspiration from the fearless examples of those who have gone before us. With strength, courage, and unwavering faith, let us boldly follow God’s call on our lives, trusting in His provision and guidance every step of the way. May we be known as fearless disciples who fearlessly proclaim the name of Jesus and advance His kingdom here on earth.
