Welcome to the 21-Day Challenge, a journey of spiritual growth and transformation. It’s said that it takes 21 days to form a new habit, and in these next three weeks, we will embark on a journey of renewal and spiritual discipline.
Why 21 Days?
Research suggests that it takes approximately 21 days to form a new habit. This timeframe allows for the brain to adapt to new behaviors and for patterns to become ingrained in our daily lives. In the context of our faith, these 21 days serve as an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with God and develop habits that align with His will for our lives.
The FACTS Acronym Method:
During this challenge, we will utilize the FACTS acronym method by Hank Hannegraff as a guide for our daily devotions:
- (F)AITH: We must, first of all, study the Word of God, especially the promises of God, and find out what the will of God is. That means we must commit to read the Bible every day. Romans 10:17, “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ
- (A)DORATION: Through adoration we express our genuine, heartfelt love and longing for God and adoration inevitably leads to praise and worship. Psalm 95:6-9 Come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand.
- (C)ONFESSION: While unconfessed sin will not break our union with God, it will break our communion with God therefore confession is a crucial aspect of daily prayer. We can only develop intimacy with the God through prayer when we confess our need for forgiveness and contritely seek his pardon. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”
- (T)HANKSGIVING: Christians often fail to thank God regularly for his many blessings. We seem to have selective memories and forget the blessings of yesterday as we thanklessly barrage the God with new requests each day. 1 Thess. 5:16-18; also Eph. 5:20 “be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks on all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”
- (S)UPPLICATION: God desires for us to daily bring our requests before his throne of grace with praise and thanksgiving. We need to go to Him in prayer with the realization that the purpose of supplication is not to pressure God into providing us with provisions and pleasures but rather to conform us to his purposes. 1 John 5:14-15, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we have asked of him.” In this section I want to challenge you to break supplication down into two parts, part 1 is prayer request for other people and part 2 is prayer request for yourself.
The Challenge: For the next 21 days, commit to following the FACTS method in your daily devotional life. Spend time in prayer, study Scripture, and reflect on how you can apply these principles to your daily walk with God. Seek accountability from a trusted friend or mentor and stay consistent in your pursuit of spiritual growth.
The Results: If you faithfully commit to this 21-day challenge, the results will be transformative. You will experience a deeper connection with God as you prioritize your relationship with Him. You will develop habits that align with His will, leading to greater peace, joy, and fulfillment in your life. You will grow in your faith and become more equipped to live as a disciple of Christ in your everyday interactions. Invite a friend to join you and check in with them often to help each other stay on track, to share how it is transforming your prayer life and to rejoice in the answered prayers.
As we embark on this 21-day challenge together, may we be reminded of the words of Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Let us commit to renewing our minds and forming habits that honor God, trusting in His faithfulness every step of the way.
