Many of us have experienced moments of frustration on our spiritual journey. We may have wondered if we’re investing enough time in our spiritual growth and whether we’re seeing the desired results. In this devotional, we will explore this common struggle and discover how to approach it with faith and trust in God’s timing.
Time vs. Results: A Common Dilemma
It’s not uncommon to feel torn between the demands of daily life and the desire to grow spiritually. We may diligently read our Bibles, attend church services, engage in fellowship, and join small groups, yet sometimes it feels like our spiritual growth is slow or even stagnant.
Galatians 6:9 (NIV) “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
If you feel like you are not getting the results you desire for your spiritual growth, try these 5 things:
1. Trust God’s Timing:
– Remember that spiritual growth is a process, and God’s timing is not always our timing. Trust that He is working in your life, even when you don’t see immediate results (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
2. Quality Over Quantity:
– It’s not just about how much time you spend on spiritual activities, but the quality of your engagement. Focus on deepening your relationship with God and applying His Word in your life (Matthew 6:6).
3. Reflect on Your Motives:
– Examine why you desire spiritual growth. Is it for personal gain or to honor God? A pure heart and sincere motives are pleasing to God (Psalm 51:10).
4. Persevere in Faith:
– Even when it seems like you’re not making progress, keep persevering in faith. God’s promises are trustworthy, and your efforts are not in vain (Hebrews 11:6).
5. Seek Guidance and Accountability:
– Consider seeking guidance from a mature believer or mentor who can provide insight and accountability on your spiritual journey (Proverbs 27:17).
The tension between time and results in our spiritual growth is a common struggle. But remember, God’s work in your life is often unseen and gradual. Be encouraged by the words of Psalm 37:7 (NIV): “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” As you continue to invest time and effort in your spiritual growth, trust that God is faithfully shaping you into the person He intends you to be.
Don’t be discouraged by the apparent lack of immediate results. Keep sowing seeds of faith, love, and obedience, and in due season, you will reap a harvest of spiritual growth, maturity, and a deeper relationship with your Heavenly Father.
