The Liberating Power of Truth

The phrase “It’s the truth you know that sets you free” carries profound spiritual significance. In this devotional, we will explore the impact of not knowing the truth, especially when one is unfamiliar with the Bible and God. We will also discuss how Christians, whether new or long-time believers, can come to know the truth and experience the freedom it brings.

When someone does not know the truth because they are unfamiliar with the Bible and God, they may find themselves entangled in confusion, falsehoods, and the bondage of ignorance. Without the guiding light of God’s Word, they may unknowingly embrace beliefs and lifestyles that lead away from the path of righteousness.

Scripture: John 8:32 (NIV) “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

So how can you know the TRUTH to be truly Free? Here are a few suggestions to get to the truth:

1. Study the Bible: The Bible is the ultimate source of truth. Christians, both new and seasoned, should dedicate themselves to studying the Scriptures regularly. Reading, meditating on, and memorizing passages can deepen your understanding of God’s truth (Psalm 119:105).

2. Pray for Wisdom: James 1:5 (NIV) reminds us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” Seek God’s guidance and wisdom in your quest for truth.

3. Community and Fellowship: Engaging with fellow believers in a community of faith can provide valuable insights and perspectives on God’s truth. Proverbs 27:17 (NIV) says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

4. Discernment through the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit, given to every believer, serves as a guide and counselor. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you into all truth and provide discernment (John 16:13).

5. Apply God’s Word: Knowing the truth is only part of the equation. It’s crucial to apply God’s truth to your life. James 1:22 (NIV) says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

To avoid repeating past mistakes and falling into falsehoods, we must continually seek and live by the truth we find in God’s Word. It’s not enough to merely know the truth; we must walk in it, allowing it to shape our thoughts, actions, and decisions.

As Christians, our pursuit of truth begins with a personal relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. When we abide in His Word, seek His wisdom, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us, we can know the truth that sets us free from the bondage of ignorance, sin, and deception.

Let us remember the words of Jesus in John 14:6 (NIV): “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” As we walk in the truth of Christ, we experience the ultimate freedom—freedom from sin, guilt, and the chains that once bound us. May we continue to grow in our knowledge and understanding of God’s truth, allowing it to transform our lives for His glory.
